Finally the team are catching up so here is some of the news that the partnership has been up to.


The team at Corfe have been busy and done a superb job on converting the phone box to the defib box.

A lovely way to preserve the classic phone box and also provide a vital emergency defibrillator.

New Device in Cecil Road

 

The Partnership are please to confirm another defibrillator has been put in place in Cecil Road in Swanage.   Working the Disabled Club of Swanage the device has been placed here to close a gap between Costcutters and the British Legion.

 

 

New Devices - Swanage Hospital

We are sorry for the lack of blogs , its been a bit busy !

Since the last blog about the device at Langton , another device has gone up at Swanage Hospital and just live with South Western Ambulance.

 

The device was funds through Popps a Council lead fund, the hospital kindly provided the location.

 

Please note during an emergency the staff can not leave the hospital to assist with the deployment of the AED.

New device goes live in Langton

We are pleased to announce after a very kind donation , a device and cabinet  has been placed in Langton.

The location is outside number 38 High Street Langton , just down and opposite from  the Post Office.

As ever thank you to Simon our electrician and all those involved in getting another life saving piece of equipment into the community.

We hope to be running a workshop in the Langton area in the next couple of months.

This device is registered with South Western Ambulance and in an emergency call 999 - Ambulance who will give you instructions on accessing the cabinet and use of the device.

Looking for a small Christmas gift - and help us look after our devices.

The partnership has to keep the defibrillators and cabinets  in services which includes replacement  pads, batteries and cleaning materials.

The partnership has for sale key ring face masks for use in an emergency for £2.50.
 A percentage of the sale goes towards keeping  the equipment in service.

A massive thank you to the Co-op

A massive thank you to the Staff and Customers of the Co-op in Swanage for presenting over £8000 to the defibrillator partnership yesterday.

 

We will tell you a bit more about this during the week.

Pride of Britain

I would just like to thank everyone for their kind comments and support following my nomination for a "Pride of Britain" award. 

Whilst I didn't get to go to London as special thank you to Pete Wakefield for nominating me along with my fellow coordinators , guardians and supporters that have made the partnership work so well.

We have grown from just four to twenty defibrillators , with another possible nine in the Purbeck area if we can raise the funds to purchase them.

Whilst we look at the further devices, we are also looking at the look term sustainability of the equipment to ensure they remain "Rescue Ready"

Cleaning materials,  replacement pads and batteries are all costs we need to fund raise for in the near future.

Defibrillator goes to Incident

Today saw the 10th time this year one of the Partnership defibrillators  has gone to an incident.

A medical incident in the town saw a member of the public directed to the nearest device which was on Shore Road , the 3rd time the device on Shore has been used this year.

On Monday 16th October the Partnership is holding two workshops to support the Start a Heart day.
Held at the Methodist Church at 11am and then 7pm the sessions will last about 45 minutes and open to the public.

ITV Pride of Britain nomination

We had some good news last week that Ian has been nominated for an ITV Pride of Britain Award for his work carried out with the  Defibrillator Partnership.

On Friday , reporter Richard Slee and cameraman Steve Codling attended the Coastguard Station to interview Ian, Peter Wakefield (the nominator ) and later at the United Reform Church an interview with Maggie.

The interview will be screened on ITV Meridian Tonight (6pm) during the week starting 9th October along with the other nominees of the Award throughout the week.

 A final winner is announced after all the nominations have been shown.

This nomination is very special reflecting the hard work of all the coordinators,  guardians, electricians and all those who have so generously donated to fund the devices and cabinets in Swanage and Purbeck area.

SCDP News Update

Whilst everyone has had a busy summer , the partnership has been busy in the background ensuring the devices are rescue ready.

Within a week of being installed the Worth device went to an incident, followed by the URC device which went to an incident during the folk festival.

The workshops continue to encourage the use of the devices in the community.

Pictured above is a recent workshop at the All Saints Church with Maggie and Sophie demonstrating the processes involved.  Sophie has temporary departed Swanage whilst she attends UWE in Bristol so we wish her well in her studies.

We have a big workshop day coming up on the 16th October with workshops at 11am and 7pm at the Methodist Church Hall.

Next cabinet goes up in Worth

 

 Working with the Worth  Village Hall Committee , the Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership has put up the latest public accessed Defibrillator cabinet.

Previously the device has been inside the Village Hall,  after fund raising this year  and working with the partnership the device will soon be available 24 hours a day.

Our resident electrician , Simon gave his time to install the cabinet which is to the side of the village hall near the back door.

The device has had to be placed here due to the listed status of the village hall so it couldn't be placed on the front of the building.

This cabinet and device is the partnerships 16th site in the Purbeck area.

 The partnership is a charity under the Swanage and Purbeck Development Trust with all funds raised going to providing equipment.

SCDP supports Swanage Carnival

Swanage Carnival have been a major supporter of the partnership so this week, the volunteers have been assisting the carnival.

New Device goes to incident in first 4 days.

The new device in the telephone box at Mead Road in Corfe had only gone into service 4 days ago when it was called to an incident.

This device has been provided by the Community Heartbeat Scheme , Corfe Castle are the latest area to come under the umbrella organisation of the Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership.

We will be working and supporting the village in providing further devices for Corfe and Kingston very soon.

More details on the project soon especially as the phone box gets an over haul.

Help us to keep the devices working

 

 

 

As a chosen charity of the Coop in Swanage , help us maintain our devices and cabinets by using the CO - OP in Swanage.

 

By using the store and purchasing COOP own brands the partnership will receive a percentage which helps us keep our devices available for public use.

 

 

Guardian Team training

To ensure the devices and cabinets are kept rescue ready, the partnership carry out checks every two weeks on the equipment.

Having 18 devices in the community means a team of volunteers being available to carry out those checks.

This evenings the partnership carried out a training session for the "Guardians" and then had a team photo. The training included device and cabinet awareness as well as the audit process to record the checks.

We were really pleased that our "overseas" coordinator , Kyle joined us on a holiday from Australia !
Kyle was a founder member of the partnership before moving last year. 

 

British Legion goes Live and United Reform Church is installed

The device and cabinet at the British Legion  has gone live and is registered on the South Western Ambulance system. 

The device was installed by our resident electrician Simon who kindly gives his time along with Danny.  Each cabinet takes about two hours to install.

In other news , the next new cabinet was installed tonight at the United Reform Church in the High Street.

Simon and Sophie installed this one today , which was kindly donated by a family in memory of their parents who used the church. 
The Device and Cabinet have been inside the church for a few months due to the permissions required to install this cabinet at he church.

The URC is a listed building and external works on a building like this has to be done very carefully.

We are very grateful for the support of the Church and the Planning Officer at Purbeck District Council.

Getting to know where the devices are

With kind permission of the Town Council, we have been attaching labels to the car park machine to highlight the nearest cabinets.

Although in an emergency the Ambulance Service will tell you where the nearest machine is, the partnership want to promote the awareness of the device locations.

New Cabinet installed at the British Legion

 

The partnerships latest cabinet has been installed at the Royal British Legion in the High Street.

 

Presented in Memory of Reg Masters 1907 - 1993 , Gold Badge Holder and Secretary of the Club

 

The cabinet is being registered with South Western Ambulance and will be on line in the next week.

Coop support SCDP

Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership has been chosen as one of three local causes by the Co-op in Swanage.

 

As a Co-op Member, when you choose Co-op branded products and services, 1% of what you spend goes to a local cause in the community.  You can log on to your Co-op membership account and choose which good cause you support.  

 

Since 21 September 2016 Co-op members have already earned over £9 Million for over 4,000 local causes.

 

The funds provided by the Co-op will be used to secure the future of the partnership ensuring funding for replacement pads and batteries as well as supporting our education programme.

 

Please use you Co-op card to help support the partnership.

 

 

Town Council attend defib workshop

Swanage Town Council employees attended a Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership awareness workshop last week in the Town Hall.

16 staff attended over two days to learn about the partnerships work and then practise CPR, as well as  using the devices.

 Several of the cabinets are located on Town Council properties with the staff often working close by so these session are important to both the staff and the public.

Swanage Town Council has been very supportive of the partnerships work so the awareness events will become a regular event to keep skills up to date.
